"My husband and I could not have asked for more in a wedding photographer! Brittany is wonderful to work with--I can't say that enough. I'm the type of person who likes to trust the experts when it comes to things I have no clue about i.e. photography. I never second guessed a thing that she wanted to do. Having her as one of my vendors was, by far, the easiest decision I made when it came to wedding planning. Her work is absolutely astounding and it is evident in the beautiful photos that she captured for us. Book her and let her work magic for you!"

As a bride that gets overwhelmed easily, she made this entire process so easy and I am so grateful. She is professional when appropriate but also effortlessly easy to talk and laugh with when needed"

Engagement Sessions

Why do so many couples get professional engagement photos?

brittany martorella columbus georgia fort benning engagement elopement wedding photographer-64.JPG

it turned out to be fun

If you aren't quite comfortable in front of the camera, an engagement session is a great way to ease you into the process BEFORE the wedding day. I also really appreciate getting to know you and your fiance a bit more before the big day, it helps me because I know how to cue you into poses already and what jokes to crack!

Time to Express Yourseves

Use this time to express your personalities as individuals and most importantly, as a couple. Make it fun and casual! Just enjoy some quality time away from wedding planning and the rest of the world.

Chill out!

Your engagement session will last about an hour, use this time as an escape and focus on each other and the fact that you two will be married soon! During the shoot I give light direction and the occasional posed shot, most of the time I'll cue you into a moment and let things unfold from there. Typically couples use engagement photos for their save the date cards, so schedule this with ample time!

What to Wear

Wear something that makes you feel confident and comfortable, I suggest buying new complementing outfits and to steer clear of bright colors and small stripes.

Expert tips: Coordinate, don't match. We love the idea of coordinating your look with complimenting colors to avoid the dreaded 'discount family photography while on vacation at the beach' look- you KNOW what I'm talking about! Don't be afraid to incorporate patterns, textures and accessories. For me, you can't go wrong with a button down shirt and some classic dress pants. To match that I would advise a woman to choose a patterned flowy maxi skirt and a solid top, paired with a chunky knit cardigan depending on the season!

Think outside the box for your engagement session...

Some options for incredible engagement session settings:

  • The place you were proposed to
  • A beautiful farm
  • In my studio, Vanity Fair style
  • Your home! (best to incorporate your pets)
  • Where you first met
  • A romantic beach
  • Downtown
  • Your favorite coffee shop

Wedding Timeline

A wedding can feel like a whirlwind of events, gone in the blink of an eye. Having an immaculate timeline, double and triple checked with all of your vendors is essential for a perfectly executed event. If you are looking to effectively plan your wedding day with (or without) your wedding day coordinator, here's a look at a typically wedding timeline with me.

  • 2-3 hours before the Ceremony:
I'll be meeting with the bride at her getting ready location, I first begin with the stylized shots of the dress as well as the invitations, rings, flowers and jewelry. If you have added a second shooter to your package, they will be with the groom at this time (and save your schedule an hour or more!)
  • 60-90 minutes before the Ceremony:
If you decide to have a First Look it will be done shortly after you're dressed and ready. I will also photograph the wedding party during this time to save time directly after the ceremony when everyone is hungry. If you plan to have immediate family present we can do the family groupings at this time as well.
  • The Ceremony:
I want to make sure your day runs on time so I''ll be done with time to spare to get you down the aisle!
  • Following the Ceremony:
Congratulations! I know you want to celebrate so I'll be as efficient as possible. If we haven't done the family formals yet, we'll do those immediately following the ceremony. With a high level of planning and written out formal picture groupings, we will only need about twenty minutes for this.
  • 30-45 Minutes post-Ceremony:
I want you to have great photographs with your attendants but I also know they want to have a good time at your wedding as well. This is when I will document the day candidly and get those great guest interactions as you head into the reception
  • 30-60 Minutes before Dinner:
For summer weddings there is time to get to your reception early and enjoy time with your guests, during other seasons I plan ahead based off of sunset times to accommodate for formal couples photos either before or after dinner service.
  • Dinner:
At this point I request my meal with the immediate family members so I can be finished quickly and be ready for toasts, I do not document guests eating.
  • Sunset:
Perhaps the biggest variable of the day, and arguably the most important with regards to photography will be the sunset time. The hour before sunset is often called 'golden hour' and has the BEST light of the day. As part of planning a wedding with me, I'll work with you to create a timeline to ensure a smooth overall schedule and beautiful imagery.
  • The Party:
After portraits are done, the cake is cut and the toasts have been given I'll be out there on the dance floor with you! This includes the formal first dances, guests dancing and even the "official" send off- although we usually do a faux send off and get back to the party for more dancing and fun

Wedding Day Tips

Gather all of your details before the day starts so I can photograph them quickly, this makes the getting ready portion of the day go by much more smoothly and allows me to spend more time focusing on the spontaneous moments instead of hunting around for both sets of rings. Here's some things you should have prepared and ready to go for me: rings, jewelry, hair pieces, flowers, shoes, cuff links, letters, pictures, cultural items, invitations, programs, printed pieces and any unique items you wish to be photographed! Also, be very careful to explain to the wedding party that the getting area room needs to stay as TIDY as possible since I will be shooting from all angles. If there is a bit of a surplus of items, I suggest hiding it beside the bed or in a corner that I will do my best to avoid.

Closing FAQs

How far in advance should I book you?
Some dates and months are more popular than others, so it's best to book as far ahead as possible to avoid issues. Weddings typically book 12 months in advance although some smaller weddings are booked around six months out.

How do we reserve our wedding date?
A 30% retainer fee and signed contract are required in order to get your wedding day in my calendar. Four weeks prior to the wedding the remainder of the balance is due in full- I do NOT take cash, checks or card the day of or after the wedding. All vendors are paid in advance for their services.

Do you have venue recommendations?
I always have ideas! I'm constantly networking with new wedding professionals so I can definitely help you find your dream location

What happens if you get sick or otherwise cannot be present at my wedding?
While this has never happened, I have a plan in place with local photographers of equal talent that would be able to stand in as your main photographer. All images would be processed and edited by me and there would be no additional costs, I'm here to take the stress away from planning this wedding. I've got backups to my backups!
