Things you probably shouldn't say to your photographer...
Let's talk, alright ladies?
I want to preface this with that I am not speaking about ANYONE in particular and this is not meant to shame anyone that cannot afford my services- I just want you all to understand a little more about WHY it is a high end experience. This absolutely comes from a place of love <3
Sometimes I'll get an email from someone interested in booking a Boudoir or Beauty Session, but they'll go on to state that they'd only like "a few pictures" and they can't afford to either invest in themselves fully, or afford my prices at all. I can understand not being able to afford it, truly, and there is no shame in that because I've been in that position as well. And when you are ready, girl you know I will be here for you! What irks me is when you ask someone to lower their prices because you can't afford them...
First of all, not to get on my podium too high but whether you want a few pictures or a truck full of high end products, my time, insurance, equipment and plethora of photography related knowledge still costs me the same. The price is the price, it's not my job to be affordable for everyone but it IS my job to serve those ladies that value and save up for this experience! Now I understand we're lead to believe photography is a "click and done" type of deal but I spend anywhere from 10-20 hours editing ONE SESSION. That's just one, I book about three a week. Not to mention the emailing back and forth, scheduling, amping you up and providing top notch assistance in selecting your outfits and your (up to) 2 hour session! That's about 70 hours a week right there, and I'm a one woman show that also has to do school drop offs and pick ups in the mornings!
With that being said, just a "few images" does nothing for the entire experience you get with a professional. Sure, you can go out and find someone with significantly less experience and probably get some okay results. But will you leave feeling fully alive and like the amazing goddess we all know you are deep down inside? Probably not. Will you walk away with products that will guaranteed last 100+ years for your grandchildren and great-grandchildren to come across and ogle over how SMOKING HOT their meemaw was? Eh. Will you get the personal attention, guaranteed 48 hour response time and ridiculously quick Album turnaround time that I provide? Again, results TBD.
Not to knock anyone starting out, we've all been there. But the old saying “you get what you pay for” certainly rings true here. There are plenty of things you don't need to shuck out the big bucks for, I'm of that school of thought! I love me some Target, some sales and BOGO is pretty much my favorite thing ever. But you know what I splurge on? Expensive ass Frye boots because I love them, I know they fit me just how I like, they are a luxury item and last FOR EVER. When I buy cheap target boots I know that they will break or last maybe one season, when I buy my Frye's I know that the company stands behind their product and if there is an issue they will see that it's resolved.
My sessions are a lot like Frye Boots. It may not be a 'once in a lifetime' experience because girlfriend I would LOVE to have you back in the studio for round two or three, but it is an experience you should immerse yourself in fully. Go the extra mile and put yourself in my very capable hands because you are WORTH it, you just have to believe it for yourself.
OH, AND FOR THAT TITLE THAT SUCKED YOU IN AND MADE YOU READ THAT WHOLE THING- DON’T TELL YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER “YOU TAKE GREAT PICTURES, you must have an amazing camera!”
AND NOT EXPECT TO GET THE SIDE-EYE WITH THE QUICKNESS. A PHOTOGRAPHER HAS SO MUCH MORE TO DO WITH THE PERSONS EYE AND LEARNING TO MANIPULATE LIGHT THAN IT DOES TO GEAR. GIVE ME A CHEAP $300 DSLR CAMERA AND I’LL PROVE IT.
Are you ready to take the next step and book your own boudoir or beauty experience?
Go ahead, I dare ya!
